June 9, 10, and 11

Tempel visits from the San Francisco area where he is a senior teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in the Insight (Vipassana) lineage.  Scroll down for his full bio.

Schedule

Friday evening: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Saturday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Our hearts have an immeasurable capacity for beautiful and sacred experiences of love, and yet many of us don’t tap into these day to day.  In the Insight Meditation tradition we cultivate the Four Brahma Viharas (The Four Homes of the Divine) as a formal practice to liberate us from patterns obscuring these beautiful qualities.  As our hearts become increasingly free of confusion these qualities of love flow effortlessly.

Come join us for a weekend of study, discussion and practice as we explore these beautiful qualities of heart.

This weekend is recommended for all levels of mediation experience.
Saturday’s session will include a lunch break mid-day. You may bring your lunch or plan for a quick outing.

Costs and The Practice of “Dana”
Weekend retreats and workshops at the Dharma Center have a 2-part “cost:”  Because the teachings are considered priceless and are to be supported by Dana (a voluntary, anonymous offering of no specified amount) we ask that you consider making a Dana offering to the teacher, in gratitude and support of the teachings – as best fits your circumstances and brings you joy in giving.

Secondly, we ask a sliding-scale registration fee to cover Tempel’s expenses and the cost of putting on the workshop.  Scholarships are always available and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds.

Please opt for the rate that best suits your circumstances:
Base Rate: $125
Student/Supportive Rate: $75
Benefactor Rate: $175
If you would like to ask for a scholarship, (to pay an amount below $75)
please register with that option and then email us and let us know.
(More details and actual registration are accessed by the yellow button above.)
Housing for out of town participants may be arranged.

We expect this event to draw from the state and region. Please email us if you would like to be hosted by a local sangha member or paired with another person to share a hotel room.  We will do our best to provide accommodation. info@BozemanDharmaCenter.org

 About Tempel Smith
Tempel Smith began practicing vipassana and metta meditation in 1989 within the Theravada Buddhist tradition at Insight Meditation Society (IMS), and focused early service and activism on nuclear disarmament, environmental protection, and working in crisis shelters for homeless and abused youth. In 1997 he spent a year in Burma as an ordained monk with both Sayadaw U Pandita and Pa Auk Sayadaw, and later practiced in silence for nine months at the IMS. Since 2001 Tempel has begun to teach meditation and Buddhist psychology to a wide variety of people including prisoners, activists, youth, service providers, and those with severe and chronic illnesses. He founded the B.A.S.E. House in San Francisco – a residential community dedicated to living a socially engaged Buddhist life. Tempel spent a year in volunteer service for Zen Hospice, and led the Teen program for Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City, California. In 2003 he initiated an international meditation retreat and program for teenagers and young adults. Tempel worked for the Buddhist Peace Fellowship in Berkeley coordinating the B.A.S.E. and Young Adults programs. He completed a four year teacher-training program run by Jack Kornfield at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and IMS. Tempel also leads pilgrimages to Thailand, Burma, and India.
