Mindfulness, Concentration, and Liberating Insight practices

A 5 week series exploring the historical Buddha’s teachings to caregivers, those suffering sickness and those grieving

Thursdays, April 11 – May 9

Among the thousands of Discourses given by the historical Buddha there are only a few dozen that deal directly with advice to those who are suffering pain, illness, and dying and those who are caregivers and grieving. This five week series will explore 10 of these discourses that provide a road map for dealing with illness and the inevitability of death from the Theravada Buddhist perspective. They give a glimpse into the mindfulness, concentration and insight practices taught to those who were ill and those rendering care at the time of Buddha. While this may appeal to an academic interest for many, they still have relevance today for people on a spiritual path. The topics are listed below. Feel free to come to one or more. I think you will find them interesting and of benefit. -Floyd

Thursday April 11th : The Two Arrows of Suffering- Body and Mind and Sick Body and Healthy Mind.
Thursday April 18th: Beneficial Qualities of the patient and caregivers and Enduring Pain and Mindful Pain Reduction
