with Guest Speaker, Geshe Yonten

Please join us for this lovely opportunity to hear Geshe speak on “Technology and Spirituality” followed by a short documentary film of the 2017 Hands on Global service trip to Zanskar, discussion and dessert.

Hands on Global, Inc. (HOGI) has invited Geshe Yonten from Zanskar, India to the United States to collaborate on raising funds for the Zanskar medical center, a key project of HOGI. Geshe is a senior member of the Zanskar Health Committee. Recognizing the importance of the Himalayan region to the survival of the last authentic Tibetan Buddhist Culture, Geshe took on the responsibility of educating the children and bringing a modern health care system for Zanskar.

Geshe Lobsang Yonten was born in Zanskar, a remote part of northern India that is historically and ethnically Tibetan. Geshe chose to become a monk joining the local monastery and studying there for five years. Upon completing the exams at his local monastery, he travelled to Depung Monastery in South India and began the twenty- six-year program of scholarly study to become a Geshe This degree is the highest monastic degree in Buddhism. During these 26 years he was tested on his knowledge of Buddhist philosophy in front of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In addition to his work with the Zanskar Foundation, Geshe Yonten is a member of a small group of monks selected by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to study English, western philosophy, and science so that he may teach, collaborate, and study with scientists, philosophers, educators and others around the world.

Hands on Global, Inc is based in Helena Montana. The nonprofit focuses on implementing health care in remote places of the world. They are currently working on a medical center in Zanskar, India. Zanskar is the highest inhabited place on earth. Recently, a new medical clinic has been built with the support of Hands On Global and Geshe. Already, with one part- time doctor and one assistant, it is becoming self-supporting, but more needs to be done.
