The Nature of the Heart

Weekend Retreat with John & Christiane Prendergast

Friday, November 9, 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Saturday, November 10, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, November 11, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

In this retreat, we will explore the multidimensional nature of the heart, ranging from Ramana Maharshi’s description of it as non-locatable pure consciousness to the psychological level of feeling fundamentally lacking, flawed, and separate. As we deepen in the discovery of our true nature, emptying out our limiting self images and stories and uncovering our inherent love, kindness, and gratitude, the relationship to our conditioned body-mind transforms. Increasingly we experience the universal Heart holding the vulnerable and conditioned human heart with affectionate awareness, supporting its self-liberation.

Through talks and dialogues, silent and guided meditations, potent dyadic meditative inquiries, and several sessions of body sensing and gentle yoga, we will deepen our intimacy into the core of the heart.

He is a retired Adjunct Professor of Psychology at CIIS in San Francisco where he supervised and trained masters level counseling students for twenty-three years.

John studied for many years with the European sage Jean Klein as well as with Adyashanti and was invited to share the dharma by Dorothy Hunt.

About Christiane

Originally from France, Christiane Prendergast studied with Advaita master Jean Klein who taught subtle-body yoga learned from Kashmir Shaivism. Essentially, this is a form of somatic inquiry, where the body, rather than the mind, is the primary portal for the experiential investigation of energy and consciousness. Open to people of all fitness levels, the body is explored through gentle movements and postures, with all the sensations welcomed effortlessly in the open space of awareness.
