Weekend Retreat with Bruce Tift

Already Free

 with Bruce Tift

Retreat Description
Psychotherapy and Buddhism are both powerful vehicles for the relief of unnecessary suffering, though with profound differences.  Psychotherapy explores our conditioned history, our patterns of behavior, the ways in which we re-enact our past in the present.  Buddhist practice investigates how we engage with and avoid our immediate experiencing, how to increase our capacity to be open and kind to whatever is arising in this on-going stream of experiencing.  Rather than search for an integration of these two approaches, it may be more accurate to hold them both in a never resolvable dialogue.

In this workshop we will address such issues as: the nature of freedom; the nature of neurosis; sanity as a counter-instinctual practice; cultivating unconditional confidence; moving from compulsivity to choice; personal responsibility as an antidote to co-dependent dynamics; the therapist as a location of awareness rather than as a change agent; and more.

We will continue an open discussion through the weekend, with exercises and role plays when helpful.

Friday evening, 7 – 9 PM
Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Sunday, 9:00 AM – 2 PM

Registration Information

Weekend retreats and workshops at the Dharma Center have a 2-part “cost:”  Because the teachings are considered priceless and are to be supported by Dana (a voluntary, anonymous offering of no specified amount) we ask that you consider making a Dana offering to the teacher, in gratitude and support of the teachings – as best fits your circumstances and brings you joy in giving.

Secondly, we ask a sliding-scale registration fee to cover teacher expenses and the cost of putting on the retreat.  Scholarships are always available and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds.

Out of town guests may find this list of resources helpful.
