SUMMARY:Practicing with the Hindrances: A Creative Approach
DESCRIPTION:Practicing with the Hindrances\nA Creative Approach\nwith Karen DeCotis\nFriday\, February 28 & Saturday\, March 1\nWe face so much in our lives: within society\, community\, and family. Yet\, it is with our own good selves where we have some agency and possibility for growth and healing. There are states of mind and heart we encounter over which we have little control\, but we do have influence. Our practice is a creative endeavor\, rooted in the here and now. Working with obstacles is an opportunity to be fully alive\, interested and brave. Join Zen priest Karen DeCotis for a Friday evening and Saturday day long exploration into the inventive countermeasures we can discover together. Registration for Friday only is available.

SUMMARY:Poetry from Emptiness with Kerry Neal
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, February 16\n2:30-3:30 PM\nA small group is sitting in silence.\nSomeone claps their hands and\nspeaks a line of poetry.\nMore silence until\na responding line of poetry arises\nin the mind of another\nwho then claps their hands\nand speaks that line.\nReturn to empty mind.\nContinue. \n\nPoetry from Emptiness is a technique from the Daoist literary tradition of China. It promotes creative friendship through shared verbal images and the pleasure of just quietly sitting in tranquility. \n\nNo right\, no wrong\njust thoughts that continue\na cascade of images. \n\nYou do not have to think of yourself as a poet to enjoy Poetry from Emptiness. You only need to be open\, curious\, contemplative and spontaneous. Poetry from Emptiness is not based on a philosophy or religion. It only requires a mind empty of preconceptions.

SUMMARY:The Way of Meditative Warriorship
DESCRIPTION:The uncertainty of these times calls for a commitment to live the truth and love this world yearns for. During this half-day retreat\, we will explore the foundations of living a heart-centered and wakeful life. By emphasizing stillness and relaxation\, we will support the natural and fearless qualities of the heart that characterize meditative warriorship. This period will involve sitting\, walking\, and relational practices that deepen a felt sense of belonging and inspiration for the journey ahead. \nJames Nepenthe Frank is a meditation teacher and somatic healing practitioner. He began practice as a young child in the Plum Village Tradition with Thich Nhat Hanh and began formally sitting in the Western Insight tradition at the age of 15. While dedicating years of his life to silent retreat\, he serves a commitment to live this path in everyday life. He began teaching at the invitation of his teacher\, Rodney Smith. He lives in Lincoln\, Vermont.

SUMMARY:Tergar New Year Online Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:New Year Meditation Retreat\nwith Tergar Guides\nSaturday\, January 18\n8 AM – 11 AM\nwith Q&A from 11-11:30\nSocial time afterward\nTergar Bozeman is excited to stream this retreat offered by Tergar.org. This retreat is free and open to everyone and donations are gratefully accepted for the BDC and Tergar Bozeman sangha. Please register (at no charge) so that we know how many to expect. \nThis is a great opportunity to get a taste of Mingyur Rinpoche’s view of meditation from the ancient teachings of the two linages of which he is a Master. That being that we are already whole and complete\, we are not broken.  Through these practices we recognize our innate love and compassion from a place of self discovery. \n“Working with awareness\, compassion\, and wisdom\, we open our hearts and minds\, rippling out towards a more joyful and peaceable world.” — Mingyur Rinpoche \n  \n \n\n\nFROM TERGAR.ORG:\nStarting a new year is not just about changing the calendar — it’s a chance to redefine ourselves and align our actions with the visions we have for the future. The turn of the year brings a renewed sense of energy\, a fresh slate for our aspirations\, and an opportunity to embrace practices that nurture growth in every aspect of our lives. To make the most of this transition\, we need to balance ambitious goals with thoughtful\, purposeful routines that pave the way for these dreams to become reality. \nWHY SHOULD I ATTEND?\nThis retreat will offer reflections and practices to help you set the aspirations that will chart the way for the year to develop. You will meet with fellow practitioners from around the globe coming together to practice awareness\, compassion\, and wisdom\, and you will also hear from our instructors about their own experiences practicing with these qualities. \nWHAT WILL I LEARN?\nIn this program\, you will explore and establish a deeper understanding of your own innate awareness\, love and compassion\, and wisdom — setting a foundation for your commitments to yourself and the world in the year to come. \nWHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS PROGRAM?\nThis event will include: \n\nA New Year video from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche\nA talk about the importance of aspirations by a Tergar guide\nGuided meditation on awareness\, compassion\, and wisdom
