SUMMARY:Joining Rivers Day of Mindfulness with Gina Garlie
DESCRIPTION:Resting In the Quiet\, Returning To Wonder\nwith Gina Garlie\nSaturday\, November 8\n9AM – 4 PM\nJoin us for a Day of Mindfulness in the Plum Village tradition\, settling into meditation and mindfulness practices that water our seeds of well-being and reawaken us to the wonders of life.  \nNovember is a time of growing darkness and quiet as the pulse of life slows. During our day together\, we will enjoy ways to renew our energy and act with intention and deep gratitude for the gifts before us in this deepening season of darkness. \nPractitioners from all traditions and any level of previous experience are welcome. \nLunch is brown bag. \n \nAbout the Teacher\nGina Garlie is a Dharma Teacher in the Plum Village Tradition founded by Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh. She received the Lamp Transmission in the Tiep Hein Order of Interbeing of at Plum Village in the spring of 2025. Gina spent thirty years as a public school teacher\, teaching middle school sciences\, and interspersed practices of mindfulness into her daily lessons. When she is not engaged in Sangha Building\, she can often be found oil painting or enjoying time in nature.  She also offers personal consultations for developing or deepening personal meditation practices and mindful living. SUMMARY:Emotional Injury: Healing the Spirit through Qigong (RENTAL of BDC)
DESCRIPTION:Emotional Injury: Healing the Spirit through Qigong\nSaturday\, October 18\n10AM – 12PM\nHosted by Peng Her at BDC\nThe human experience involves some form of “emotional injury.” These “injuries” accumulate within the body overtime\, have a lasting impact on the body\, and they affect the “Spirit.” And when these “emotional injuries” are not discharged from the body\, they manifest themselves as physical symptoms or long standing chronic conditions that stack on top of each other—anxiety\, depression\, insomnia\, chronic fatigue\, brain fog\, chronic inflammation\, and many more advanced inflammatory and autoimmune disorders as we age. \nMany people talk about “healing the spirit”\, but what exactly do they mean by that? What does that even look like? How does it show up in the body? And how do we go about healing the spirit? \nIf you’re someone who is “doing all the right things”—eating well\, exercising\, meditating\, praying\, and connecting with your Creator—this talk is for you. In this lecture\, we’re going to explore a spiritual component to healing and how Qigong might shed some light on “healing the spirit.”

SUMMARY:A Life that Works with Fleet Maull
DESCRIPTION:A Life That Works:\nReaping the Benefits of Spiritual Practice\nSaturday\, August 16\n4-6 PM\nFree; Donations Welcome.\nPlease RSVP as space is limited.\nMany of us operate under the assumption that our spiritual life and practices will somehow transform our relationships\, livelihood\, finances\, eating habits\, and the way that our past influences the present. Yet we often find our habitual and not so healthy ways of navigating daily life\, alive and well\, despite our deepening spiritual practice and experiences. \nThere is a tendency to split or compartmentalize our lives into the spiritual and the mundane\, when in fact there need not be any division between the two. In fact\, there are simple ways to work with our situation that can be integrated seamlessly with whatever path we travel. \nPlease join Acharya Fleet Maull for a powerful\, practical\, and streetwise dialogue in which we will embrace the context and skillful means for creating a life that works\, and at the same time has spiritual life and practice as its foundation. \nRSVP HERE \nAbout the Teacher\nFleet Maull is a senior teacher in both the Tibetan Buddhist and Zen traditions\, Fleet brings decades of experience in socially engaged Buddhism\, prison mindfulness work\, and end-of-life care. \nHis teachings draw from a life of deep spiritual practice and service—from serving as a personal attendant to Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche\, to leading Bearing Witness retreats at Auschwitz\, and founding the Prison Mindfulness Institute and Heart Mind Institute. Fleet is the author of Dharma in Hell and Radical Responsibility.
