SUMMARY:Pali Canon Study Group
DESCRIPTION:Pali Canon Study Group\nTuesdays 1:15-2:15 PM\nIn person and via Zoom\nAlthough Bozeman Dharma Center houses groups from multiple lineages\, one thing we all have in common is a reliance on the teachings of the Buddha. This peer-led study group will begin by tackling readings from the Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha. You do not need to own the book to participate and do not need to commit to attending every week. Already having a practice and familiarity with the Dharma will be helpful. \nBasic Schedule\n1:15 Short sit\n1:30 Read portion of Pali Canon with discussion afterward\n2:15 Close

SUMMARY:Bozeman Insight Community
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, 6:30 – 8:00 pm\nIn person and via Zoom \nBozeman Insight Community (BIC) is a welcoming community that offers the Buddha’s priceless teachings on wisdom and compassion to all those who seek them. Centered on a commitment to personal practice  we support the development and expression of our inherent wisdom  and compassion for the benefit of all beings. \nThe program usually begins with a short teaching to introduce the practice and provide some instruction. Then there is a lightly-guided 30-minute meditation\, followed by tea\, Q&A\, and discussion. We open and close the evening with short chants\, which are provided and completely optional. \nAll are warmly welcome to drop in and join us. No prior experience necessary. If you’d like to talk to one of the leaders prior to attending for the first time\, please email us and we’ll connect. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our sangha. \nWhen in person\, service dogs\, lap babies and school-age children are welcome. There are places in the room and nearby where kids can hang out or do homework. Parents can relax about any disturbance this may cause – our community is not fussy about meditation rooms being super silent (ambient noise is a chance to practice with the conditions and cultivate equanimity). We’d rather have you with us than strive for “perfect” conditions (which don’t exist). \nBIC Leadership\nCouncil Member – Sandy Kindt\nCouncil Member – Megan Higgs\nCouncil Member – Marilyn Raffensperger \nFor leader and council member bios\, more information about this group\, and to see program updates\, please click this link to go to the BIC’s website.

SUMMARY:Parenting and Caregiving as the Path
DESCRIPTION:Parenting and Caregiving as the Path\nwith Cara Lai\nSaturday\, February 14\n9:30 AM – 3:00 PM MST\nAbout the Retreat\nThe number of parents  in the world is tremendous (everyone exists because of them!)\, and yet it’s easy to believe that parenthood\, or caregiving more broadly\, presents a barrier to deep practice. The lack of sleep\, the constant attention to others\, the endless list of agenda items\, and the obstacles to going on retreat all might lead to the belief that one has to choose between having a serious practice and becoming a parent or caregiver. And yet\, parenthood and caregiving are clearly abundant with opportunities for practice in metta\, generosity\, patience\, and letting go. This day of practice and connection will explore and celebrate the many ways that being a caregiver has tremendous potential to be its own path to awakening. We will share stories\, practice\, reflect\, grieve\, and laugh together; and we will remember the wisdom of parents walking the path before us\, to recognize the richness of our awakening as caregivers. \nIt is important to Cara and to the BDC that everyone who is interested has access to this retreat. If finding or paying for childcare becomes a barrier to taking this class\, please reach out to info@bozemandharmacenter.org. \nCara Lai will be online via Zoom. You are welcome to come to the BDC to participate in community or to practice in the comfort of your home. \n \nAbout the Teacher\n \nCara Lai is a meditation teacher\, artist\, and writer who helps people step out of the cycle of suffering and into the fullness of life. She spent most of her life trying to figure out how to be happy\, or at least avoid total misery\, which ultimately led her to spend the majority of her adulthood meditating. She’s explored what it means to be alive through many adventures in consciousness\, including a full year of solitary retreat\, living with chronic illness\, and having two whole humans come out through her vagina. \nShe once worked as a wilderness guide\, social worker\, and psychotherapist\, but traded it in for an all-out mindfulness rampage. She’s a working mom whose teaching is relatable\, authentic\, funny and sometimes crass\, and is accessible for many people. She is authorized to teach in the Theravada Buddhist Lineage through IMS/Spirit Rock\, and she teaches at centers across the country\, for the Happier app\, Ten Percent Happier\, Hatch\, and more. She lives with her husband\, toddler\, and new infant in Hinesburg\, Vermont\, ultimately hoping to get woke enough to bend spoons with her mind in front of large audiences. And to help everyone get free. \nLearn more about Cara and her offerings here.
