Poetry from Emptiness with Kerry Neal

February 16 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Explore Koans with Michael Smith

Sunday, February 16
2:30-3:30 PM

A small group is sitting in silence.
Someone claps their hands and
speaks a line of poetry.
More silence until
a responding line of poetry arises
in the mind of another
who then claps their hands
and speaks that line.
Return to empty mind.
Continue.

Poetry from Emptiness is a technique from the Daoist literary tradition of China. It promotes creative friendship through shared verbal images and the pleasure of just quietly sitting in tranquility.

No right, no wrong
just thoughts that continue
a cascade of images.

You do not have to think of yourself as a poet to enjoy Poetry from Emptiness. You only need to be open, curious, contemplative and spontaneous. Poetry from Emptiness is not based on a philosophy or religion. It only requires a mind empty of preconceptions.
