Awareness, Kindness, and Community

with visiting IMS & Spirit Rock Teacher

Vance Pryor

Saturday, April 8
9 AM – 4:30 PM

Develop the two wings of the dharma: Awareness and Metta, and explore how they work together to cultivate belonging and community.

Our practice develops and deepens through two foundational meditations– sustaining awareness of our unfolding experience, and cultivating a kind disposition towards ourselves, others, and the world.

First, fostering awareness allows us to clearly perceive the present moment experience– either internal experience such as thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, or external conditions, like tending to the environment and other beings. Awareness grants us the opportunity for clear seeing and wise response, and leads to well-being and awakening.

Second, Metta, or loving-kindness, is a warm and friendly quality of heart which opens the doorway to a more allowing and beneficial relationship with whatever it is we are attending to. This basic kindness can overcome states of aversion, including fear, anger, and agitation.

In this day of practice, talks and Q&A, we will cultivate these practices of awareness and metta, then explore how they work in tandem to deepen community and feelings of belonging with others.  All are welcome regardless of prior meditation experience.
