Intro to Meditation

Our next Intro to Meditation class series starts this Wednesday, September 21 at 7 PM. Karen DeCotis from the Bozeman Zen Group (and the BDC’s new Director) will be leading these sessions. Learn practices from the Insight, Zen and Tibetan traditions. Meditation can help to calm the mind, open the heart, and awaken wisdom. It is a means to study ourselves by contacting our inner life. When we know ourselves well, we are better able to relate to others in the world with integrity and confidence. In the Buddhist tradition there are several meditation styles that can aid us in developing the qualities of peacefulness and wisdom. Join us for any or all of this series, if you would like to begin a meditation practice or renew the one you already have.

Open House

Are you or someone you know interested in meditation? Mindfulness? Buddhism? Come to our Open House on Friday, September 16! Drop in any time from 5-6:30pm. Explore the BDC, meet board members, group leaders, and other like-minded people. A great time to get your questions answered! Meditation supplies, art and books will be available for purchase for a donation to the BDC.

Dawn Scott Dharma Talk

On Sunday, August 28 from 10-11:30 am, Dawn Scott will be the guest at Butte Insight Sangha’s weekly meeting. Use Butte’s Zoom meeting number: 567-641-174 (pass code 628468). Dawn has been practicing Insight Meditation since 2008 and served as the Family Program Coordinator for eight years at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

Low Transmission

The CDC is listing Gallatin County as having low COVID transmission right now (8/12/22)! This means masking is optional when you are in person at the BDC. We check Gallatin County’s status weekly and we have a sign on a table near our front door that lets you know if masks are required or optional. Masks are provided in case you don’t have one with you. If you’re at home and want to check Gallatin’s transmission rates, you can do so here. Thanks for helping to keep our community safe!

Half-Day Sit

Join Karen DeCotis and the Bozeman Zen Group on Sunday, August 14 for a half-day of practice. This is a wonderful way to deepen your practice, get some experience with retreat practice and still have your weekend!  Sit zazen, do walking meditation (kinhin), stretch, listen to a Dharma Talk, and chant.

The Zen group asks for a $15 donation for the 1/2 day to support the group, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. There is opportunity to offer dana to the teacher as well.
